Lots of people have cellulite, some may not even understand what it is or why, others have decided to let it be part of them. As I have lots of male readers, this shouldn't make you feel left out as you may have sisters, girlfriends, mums and a friend who has a friend and just so you know some men also have cellulite. Knowing all about cellulite would help you help someone.

what does this really mean?


Cellulite is a condition in which the skin appears to have areas with underlying fat deposits, giving it a dimpled, lumpy appearance. It is most noticeable on the buttocks and thighs. It is also common with overweight females ( those whose BMI (body mass index) exceeds 25). However those who have an appropriate weight are not left out.


WHAT CAUSES CELLULITE?


The causes of cellulite are not well understood, but there are several theories that have been put forth as explanations. Among these are:

  • Hormonal factors - hormones likely play an important role in cellulite development. Many believe estrogen, insulin, noradrenaline, thyroid hormones, and prolactin are part of the cellulite production process.
  • Genetics - certain genes are required for cellulite development. Genes may predispose an individual to particular characteristics associated with cellulite, such as gender, race, slow metabolism, distribution of fat just underneath the skin, and circulatory insufficiency.
  • Diet - people who eat too much fat, carbohydrates, or salt and too little fiber are likely to have greater amounts of cellulite.
  • Lifestyle factors - cellulite may be more prevalent in smokers, those who do not exercise, and those who sit or stand in one position for long periods of time.
  • Clothing - underwear with tight elastic across the buttocks (limiting blood flow) may contribute to the formation of cellulite.



HOW CAN CELLULITE BE PREVENTED?

Healthy eating, low fat foods such as fruits, vegetables, and fiber can help one to avoid cellulite. Similarly exercising regularly, maintaining a healthy weight.
In addition wearing free underwear can prevent cellulite formation as it may help increase blood circulation. I have read that cellulite can also be prevented or controlled with cold or lukewarm water baths rather that hot water as cold or lukewarm water may help with making the skin firm. Exercising also helps keep the muscles toned and prevents cellulite formation.
Do not get carried away with the idea of plastic surgery or any form of surgical management as you may harm yourself. Stick to natural methods. However there are several products out there which people say can help but I would advice you check reviews and do proper research before purchasing.
Lets fix or maintain that bikini body, no more random excuses not to go swimming. Stay healthy, stay confident and live healthy.
